Eight Weston-McEwen High School graduates receive Ferguson scholarships

WESTON — Eight Weston-McEwen High School graduates received awards from the Earl and Jane Ferguson Scholarship program.

Administered by the Blue Mountain Community Foundation, the 2024 Ferguson scholarship awards totaled $14,000. According to a press release, the recipients and educational plans of those receiving $2,000 are Mazon Langford (Eastern Oregon University, exercise/health science), Sabine Wong-Boulanger (Brown University, biology), Keira Denny (University of Idaho, health sciences), Mackenzie Aldrich (Walla Walla Community College, early childhood education), Emma Calvert (Oregon State University, marine biology/business), and Helen William (Oregon State University, biology/health sciences). Those receiving $1,000 scholarships are EvaLena Lieuallen (Walla Walla Community College, nursing), and Brooke Harley (University of Oregon, general social sciences).

Earl and Jane Ferguson grew up in Weston, with both graduating from Weston High School in the early 1950s. After getting married in 1952 and earning degrees at Oregon State University, they moved to Klamath Falls to pursue careers in education.

They started this scholarship more than 25 years ago to help students in their hometown. The selection process includes financial need, scholastic achievements, leadership qualities and good citizenship.
