Police identity body of woman found near Milton-Freewater

MILTON-FREEWATER — Police agencies have identified the body of a woman found in February near Milton-Freewater.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Feb. 27, announced the sheriff’s office in cooperation with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office and Milton-Freewater Police Department identified the body as Shelby Lynn Cunningham.

Cunningham was reported as a missing person out of Milton-Freewater, according to the sheriff’s office. She was 20 years old.

The sheriff’s office on Feb. 18 responded to the area of Cache Hollow and Walla Walla River roads, Milton-Freewater, on a report of a possible deceased person. Patrol deputy Todd Siex responded and confirmed there was a dead woman in the area.

Umatilla County Search & Rescue assisted in recovering the body.

The sheriff’s office also reported it is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and will release more information when it is available.
