Echo families, get ready to dance!
ECHO — It’s time for the daddy-daughter-mother-son party! Parents grab your offspring for a fun night out at the Family Dance on Saturday, Feb. 17, 5-8 p.m., in the Echo Community Center (City Hall, upstairs), 20 Bonanza St. Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy the festivities, with snacks, drinks and door prizes. CTUIR events celebrate tribal culture
PENDLETON — The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation will host a Valentine’s Gathering on Feb. 14 at the Mission Longhouse on Confederated Way. At 5:30 p.m. the Community Dinner (bring salad or dessert) and hand drumming begins, with the Grand Entry at 6 p.m. Dance contests will follow, including inter-tribal for girls and for boys, Owl Dance, Rabbit Dance and a cake dance.
Tribal heritage and cowboy culture will be honored on Feb. 23 to 25, at the Two Cultures One Community Powwow. This first annual celebration of native dancing and drumming is open to all who appreciate Native American traditions. During special contests, dancers will showcase the many forms of native dancing at this three-day event, held at the Pendleton Convention Center, 1601 Westgate. Hours are Friday, noon to 11 p.m.; Saturday, noon to midnight and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. Call CTUIR for more information, at 541-276-3165.
Bring your group for a great escape
HERMISTON — EOTEC, at 1705 E. Airport Road, is offering your choice of three different escape rooms on Friday, Feb. 9, 1-8 p.m. Get your group together (around eight works best) and sign up for a one-hour adventure. Three storylines are offered: “Bomb the Butte” (easy), “Save the Mayor” (medium) and “Souvenir from Spain” (hard). Solve the puzzles with clues provided and escape before the clock runs out! Toddlers takeover the community center
HERMISTON — Tiny thrill-seekers are invited to rev their wheels and enjoy a morning of zoomies at the Hermiston Community Center, 415 S. Highway 395. The Toddler Takeover is a new event held every other Wednesday (Feb. 7 and 21 this month), 9-10:30 a.m. Parents can bring their youngsters, five and under, along with trikes, scooters or big wheels. A safe, designated riding area is provided, along with a no-wheels play area. Cost is $1 per child, at the door; no need to register. Questions? Call 541-667-5018.
Cook up a tiny felt brunch
PENDLETON — The work of needle felting artist LeBrie Rich is on display at the Pendleton Center for the Arts and she will also teach a class on Saturday, Feb. 24,1-3:30 p.m. Rich will help participants use needle felt techniques to create a miniature smorgasbord.
