Pros split games during week

The Grant Union Prospector boys basketball team won one game and lost another in this week’s action.

The Pros opened the week with a dominant 81-56 league win over Weston-McEwen on Monday, Jan. 22 in Athena. The win moved the Pros to 11-5 on the season with an even 3-1 league record.

The Pros then traveled to Enterprise for a league matchup with the Outlaws on Saturday, Jan. 27, coming up just short in a 57-53 losing effort for their second consecutive loss following a one-point loss to Heppner the day before. The slate of games for the week leave the Pros at 11-7 on the season with a 3-3 league record.

The Pros will look to get over the .500 mark in league play when they travel to Stanfield on Friday, Feb. 2. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Pros drop pair

The Grant Union girls basketball team continues to work while still coming up short in a pair of games this past week.

The Lady Pros started the week off with a league showdown against Weston-McEwen on Monday, Jan. 22, falling 54-15 in Athena. Later that week, the Lady Pros traveled to Enterprise and fell to the Lady Outlaws 55-15.

The losses leave the Lady Pros at 1-17 on the year with an 0-6 record in league play. The Lady pros will look to add another win to their season total when they travel to Stanfield on Friday, Feb. 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Panthers earn split, creep toward .500 record

The Prairie City/Burnt River boys basketball team went 1-1 in games played during the week and inched ever closer to a .500 record following an eight-game skid earlier in the season.

The Panthers first welcomed Huntington to town on Thursday, Jan. 25 and sent them home the victims of a 69-15 mauling. The win pushed the Panthers to 9-9 on the season with a 2-0 record in league play.

Two days later the Panthers hosted top ranked Crane and fell handily via a 80-42 game score. The loss pushed the Panthers back under .500 at 9-10 and handed the team their first league loss of the season.

The Panthers will look to rebound from the Crane loss when they take on Dayville/Monument on Friday, Feb. 2 in Prairie City. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Panthers go 1-1 in games to fall to .500

The Prairie City/Burnt River girls basketball team went 1-1 in games during the week, earning a dominant win in one instance and being the victims of a thorough defeat in another.

The Lady Panthers opened the week at home against Huntington on Thursday, Jan. 25, picking up a convincing 32-14 win in front of their home crowd. The win put the Lady Panthers at 9-8 on the season with a perfect 1-0 record in league play.

Two days later, on Saturday, Jan. 27, the team traveled to Crane and were sent home the victims of a thorough, 74-7 defeat. The loss snapped a three game wining streak for the Lady Panthers, dropping them 9-9 on the season with a 1-1 record in High Desert League play.

The Lady Panthers will look to get back into the win column when they travel to Monument to take on the Lady Tigers on Friday, Feb. 2. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Dayville/Monument boys lose two straight

The Dayville/Monument boys basketball team lost a pair of games to end the week on a three game losing streak.

The Tigers first hosted Pilot Rock at Monument High School on Wednesday, Jan. 24, coming home the victims of a 73-51 loss. A mere two days later, the Tigers traveled to Huntington and left with a close, eight point 39-31 loss for their third loss in as many games.

The two losses leave the Tigers at 1-15 on the season with a 1-3 record in league play. The Tigers will look to snap that three-game slide on Friday, Feb.2 when they host Prairie City/Burnt River.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Tigers snap seven-game losing streak

The Dayville/Monument girls basketball team won their first game in seven outings while going 1-1 in games during the week.

The Lady Tigers first played Pilot Rock on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Monument High School, winning a close 49-43 game to snap a seven game losing streak that started on Dec. 18, 2023. The Lady Tigers would travel to Huntington for a non-league game with the Lady Locomotives on Friday, Jan. 26, losing by a slim three points at 26-23.

The Lady Tigers are 4-13 on the season with an 0-3 record in High Desert League play. The Lady Tigers will look for their first league win of the season when they visit Prairie City/Burnt River on Friday, Feb. 2.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
