PENDLETON — A new toxicology analyzer will improve laboratory testing at CHI St. Anthony Hospital, Pendleton.
According to a press release from Emily Smith, communications director, the St. Anthony Hospital Foundation donated the medical equipment. The unit allows for accurate testing of substances, including fentanyl, to quickly identify and provide treatment.
Lab Manager Amy Zimmerman and Emergency Department Manager Steve Hardin both said the analyzer has been beneficial.
“Less than a month after we have started using this machine, it has already helped us save two lives in the ER,” Hardin said. “This is truly a boon to the community, and we are using it for the benefit of all.”
The foundation was established as a nonprofit in 1989 to help support the hospital’s needs. The foundation receives donations from community members and raises money during its annual Festival of Trees event.
