PENDLETON — A train may have struck and killed a male in Pendleton.

Pendleton Chief of Police Charles Byram said a conductor traveling shortly before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, through the 2200 block of Southwest Court Avenue noticed a male who may have been dead near the railroad tracks. The conductor immediately alerted police, who confirmed the individual was dead.

Police do not know the identity of the body.

Byram said the male’s injuries indicate a train may have struck and then dragged him.

Police have partnered with Union Pacific Railroad to obtain video and determine what happened, Byram said. Detectives are working to identify the male and then notify relatives.

The chief also said police would release more information when it is available.
