Redmond paraglider crashes into butte, prompting helicopter rescue

- A helicopter carries a Redmond man to St. Charles Bend after he crashed a paraglider into Juniper Butte in Jefferson County on Wednesday.
A 52-year-old Redmond man paragliding in Jefferson County crashed on Wednesday after he lost consciousness midair.
The man, who authorities didn’t name, suffered multiple injuries and was flown to St. Charles Bend in a helicopter, according to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded to the reported crash on the south side of Juniper Butte near Culver at around 12:28 p.m. The report said the crash occurred about two-thirds of the way up the side of the butte, the press release said.
Emergency medical personnel found the man conscious and breathing. He had injured his lower back, elbow and the back of his head, the press release said.
Authorities carried the man to the top of the butte, where an emergency helicopter landed and then flew the man to the hospital.
