SALEM — Thousands of Oregon residents will receive an invitation later this month to participate in The Oregon Travel Study.

According to a press release from the Oregon Department of Transportation, it seeks information about where, when and how people in Oregon travel in their daily lives. The state conducts the study every 10 years, randomly selecting households using U.S. Postal Service data.

Between September 2023 and June 2024, about half of Oregon’s 1.6 million households will receive the invitations by mail, along with directions on how to participate via smartphone app, a website or over the phone. The survey is available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish and simplified and traditional Chinese.

“Many of the decisions we make rely on data from this study,” Becky Knudson, ODOT senior transportation economist, said. “The more Oregon transportation agencies understand about how and why people use their local systems, the better we can make informed investment decisions to meet their needs.”

Participants will be compensated for their time via prepaid debit cards. For more information, visit oregontravelstudy.com. For questions, contact Knudson at rebecca.a.knudson@odot.Oregon.gov or 503-509-5559.
