Get ready for cosplay at Comic Con

PENDLETON — Pendleton Public Library, 502 S.W. Dorion Ave., is bringing back its annual Comic Con for another year. Drop by on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. for role-playing, a costume contest, games, activities and prizes! Admission is free and costumes are encouraged! Rock Camp rolls around again

PENDLETON — Rock & Roll Camp is back in force, starting Monday, Aug. 7. Indie band musicians will be on-site at Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Aug. 11 to school local teens in the rock scene — for free! Participants can perform, write songs or learn how to promote. PENDLETON & HERMISTON — Babysitting training will be offered this month in two locations. On Monday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Good Shepherd Health Care System, 610 N.W. 11th Street in Hermiston will host Babysitting Basics. Class fee is $60, including lunch and all materials. Pendleton Public Library, 502 S.W. Dorion Ave., offers Babysitting 101 on Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Class fee is $50. Both courses aim to teach babysitters in the tweens and teens about child care techniques, basic first aid, how to entertain children and what parents look for in a babysitter. Community picnic strengthens local ties

ADAMS — The town of Adams is hosting its annual summer picnic and everyone is invited. The Adams Community Picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, in the city park, starting at 4 p.m. with the library’s summer reading celebration. Old fashioned games follow at 4:30 p.m., with with food served at 5 p.m. Enjoy a burger or hot dog with all the trimmings, and bring a side, salad, or dessert to share. A silent auction and 50/50 raffle fundraiser will be held during the event. Bring the family and enjoy some small-town fun!

STEAM camps blast off in Hermiston

HERMISTON — Hermiston Parks & Rec has paired with Black Rocket to host some end-of-summer STEAM-focused camps. Black Rocket specializes in tech education, with inspirational teachers and coaches. Week-long courses include daily 2.5-hour sessions at 10 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. focusing on a wide range of gaming development skills, from coding to JavaScript, and specific games such as Python, Pokemon, Minecraft, Roblox and YouTube.
