HOOD RIVER — Interstate 84 was closed in the Columbia Gorge by severe winter weather conditions Friday morning, Dec. 23. Ice and high winds have created unsafe driving conditions throughout the Gorge, ODOT said. The interstate is to remain closed from Exits 17 to 64 until conditions improve
Local motorists hoping to travel to the Portland area for the holidays should consult the Oregon Department of Transportation’s website tripcheck.com before leaving home.

I-84 westbound was closed from mileposts 64 at Hood River to 18. Eastbound between mileposts 18, one mile east of Troutdale, and 64 was also closed. All lanes, the median and shoulders were affected, ODOT said. Motorists must use an alternate route.
ODOT’s last update was at 8:41 a.m.
The Washington State Department of Transportation required chains on Highway 14 on the north side of the Gorge.
