Need to work off the weight after a hearty Thanksgiving meal, or just want to avoid the Black Friday shoppers? Oregon Parks and Recreation Department invites Oregonians to go outside on Nov. 25 to enjoy walks and hikes in the great outdoors.

As an incentive, parking fees will be waived at state parks that normally charge $5 for a daily parking permit.

In Central Oregon, the most popular state park that charges a fee is Smith Rock State Park. Others include the Cove Palisades State Park at Lake Billy Chinook and Tumalo State Park between Bend and Tumalo.

The fee waiver applies all day on Nov. 25, except Shore Acres State Park, where it expires at 4 p.m.
