Winners named in 40th annual Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts

- “My Beauty: Blue Sky Series No. 4” by Nancy Allen was judged Best of Show in the 40th annual Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture in September 2022.
JOSEPH — The winners of the 40th annual Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts have been named, with Nancy Allen’s “My Beauty: Blue Sky Series No. 4” winning Best of Show, according to a press release from the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture.
The works were judged by Barbara Jaenicke, a Bend artist.
The Best of Show award was sponsored by Glenn and Duck Martin.
Other winners included:
• Sylvia Hosie’s “Gold Dust” as the Jon M. Skovlin Memorial for Best Wildlife Representation. The award was sponsored by Kirk Skovlin and Sandra Skovlin Bosley.
• The Best Three-Dimensional Art went to Mike Burns for “Amati 1566.” The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• Jan Lucking’s “With Liberty and Justice For All” won the Northwest Cultural Heritage Award, sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• Sven Geirnaert’s “AM Snout Gathering” won for Best Photography. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Photo Club.
• Timothy Biedron’s “Beacon” won for Best Drawing Medium. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• Biedron’s “Beacon” also won the overall People’s Choice award, sponsored by Allison and Steven Wolowitz.
• Leslie LeViner’s “Winter Willows and Alder Slope” won for Best Oil-Based Medium. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• Nicole Freshley’s “Eagle Cap, Winter Coming” won for Best Water-Based Medium. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• Pam Little’s “Making Travel Plans” won for Best Print Medium. The award was sponsored by Nancy Knoble, Nancy Clarke and Jim Dameron.
• Susan Pesti-Strobel’s “Lake Fairy Cape” won for Best Mixed Media. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• Sven Geirnaert’s “A Road Less Traveled” won the Northwest Region Landscape Award. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Lake Lodge and Jayzee Lumber Inc.
• Michelle L. Purvist’s “Oasis” won for Best Eclectic Piece. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• Michael Potts’ “Into Dreamtime” won the Director’s Choice Award. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts.
• David Jensen’s “Sockeye Dreaming, Wallowa River” won for People’s Choice Photography. The award was sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Photo Club.
The festival’s En Plein Air Awards went to:
• Best of Show: Crystal Newton for “Canyon’s Edge, Joseph Creek.”
• Best Agrarian Landscape: Karen Bakke for “Brennan View.”
• Best Landscape with Water: Mary Corp for “Wallowa River.”
• Best Use of Light: Karen Bakke for “Glow.”
• Best Landscape with Mountains and/or Canyons: Karen Bakke for “Dawn at Joseph Canyon.”
• Artist Choice: Karen Bakke for “Glow.”
