Election 2022: Umatilla County commissioner races

UMATILLA COUNTY — Nine candidates are vying in this election for two seats on the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners.

The Position 1 seat is open and has drawn six candidates: Bob Barton of Hermiston, Jesse Bonifer of Athena, Susan Bower of Pendleton, David Nelson of Pendleton, Cindy Timmons of Milton-Freewater and Alvin Young of Hermiston.

For Position 2, Commissioner John Shafer is running for reelection against HollyJo Beers and Rick Pullen, both of Pendleton.

Election results are preliminary and from the Oregon Secretary of State’s election results website.

POSITION 1

Bower leads the race for Position 1 on the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners with 3,120 votes, or 27.8%. Timmons is in second place, with 3,0131 votes, or 26.8%.

No. 3 is Barton with 2,033 votes, or 18.1% Rounding out the returns: Nelson has 1,276 votes (11.4%), Bonifer has 1,257 (11.2%) and Young has 498 (4.4%).

POSITION 2

Shafer leads the race for Position 2 on the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners with 5,278 votes, or 47.7%.

Beers has 3,110 votes (28.1%) and Pullen has 2,632 votes (23.8%).
