Multiple vehicle crash closes Interstate 84

BAKER CITY — The eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 were closed for several hours early Sunday, Dec. 27, due to multiple vehicle crashes that happened after dense fog cloaked the Burnt River Canyon between Baker City and Ontario.

The eastbound lanes were closed at Baker City around midnight, and reopened around 8 a.m. on Dec. 27, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

A commercial truck crashed near Milepost 349, about 35 miles southeast of Baker City, and there were several other vehicle crashes in the same area, according to ODOT.

Several agencies responded, including Oregon State Police, the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, the Huntington Fire Department and the Ontario Fire Department.

Multiple people were injured and taken by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus medical centers in Baker City and Ontario.

Names and conditions of those injured were not immediately available.
