Pendleton grad selected for ASSET research program

GALESBURG, Ill. — Lydia Mitchell, of Pendleton, has been selected for the 2020-21 cohort of Knox College students in the Artists, Scholars, Scientists, and Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow (ASSET) program.

Mitchell is majoring in political science and environmental science at Knox. The ASSET program recruits students with a wide range of career and academic aspirations during the fall of their junior year. Students propose a summer research project that will take place the following summer, and engage in interdisciplinary dialogue and mentorship experiences throughout the year.

This year, the cohort includes 14 students, studying everything from philosophy to economics to neuroscience.

Founded in 1837, Knox College is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois. Knox enrolls students from nearly every state and more than 50 countries, and is one of the 40 Colleges That Change Lives. Knox’s “Old Main” is a National Historic Landmark and the only building that remains from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
