PENDLETON — Another local event has been shelved due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Pendleton Jr. Livestock Show Board announced on Wednesday evening it will cancel this year’s show and sale held the third weekend in September, according to a press release from the organization.

“The decision was not made lightly, but with the uncertainty of future safety regulations and potential distancing controls, the board determined it was not feasible to have a live show and auction,” the release stated.

The Pendleton Jr. Show typically features more than 100 livestock exhibitors representing 4-H and FFA that exhibit market steers, hogs and lambs. The show and auction has been hosted in the Pendleton Round-Up Pavilion each September since 1959.

The board considered a virtual show and online sale option, the release said, but due to low enrollments in other shows that have recently undertaken these platforms with limited economic support, instead decided to focus on returning the event in 2021.
