Heppner man arrested for attempted rape

HEPPNER — A Heppner man was arrested last week for allegedly attempting to rape a woman on March 24.
The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bret Wade Hutton Thompson, 53, on three charges, including attempted rape in the first degree, first-degree sexual abuse and fourth-degree assault.
As a Measure 11 crime, first-degree sexual abuse carries a mandatory minimum sentence of six years and three months.
Thompson was arraigned last week and is currently lodged at the Umatilla County Jail in Pendleton. His bail is set at $505,000.
Thompson is scheduled for a probable cause preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
