YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) A former wrestling coach is suing a school district in southern Washington state, claiming she faced discrimination because of her gender and was terminated for complaining about harassment.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports Amber Rodriguez filed the lawsuit this week in Yakima County against the Sunnyside School District, claiming she faced retaliation for reporting that male coaching staff were sexually harassing female wrestlers.
The lawsuit claims a male wrestling coach weighed in female wrestlers who were only dressed in their underwear, and Rodriguez was not allowed to go to away matches with the team after she complained about the practice to the district.
Rodriguez was hired in 2014 and was denied reinstatement as a wrestling coach in April 2017.
The district did not reply to the newspaper’s request for comment.
