Anita Joyce Bates, 85, of Pendleton, Oregon, died on Friday, August 3, 2018, at her home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow in Skyview Memorial Park.
Joyce Bates was born on October 8, 1932, in Mountainair, New Mexico, to James Wesley Garrison and Hester Frances Reed. She graduated from Mountainair, New Mexico. She married David Eugene Bates on October 12, 1952

Joyce worked for The Bon Marche for 13 years and The Emporium for seven years. She cooked for the Barnett & Rugg Ranch for many summers. She was a lifelong member Assembly of God Church where she taught for 47 years in various departments. Her favorite was the coordinator of the girls club “Missionettes.”
She is survived by her husband, David E. Bates of Pendleton; sister Wanda Jackson of Aztec, New Mexico; son David Bates of Sutherlin, Oregon; daughters Janice Callis of Amarillo, Texas, and Lenora Curtis of Walla Walla, Washington; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Hester Garrison, five sisters and three brothers.
