Robert V. “Bob” Hubbard, 79, of Ione died Friday, August 18, 2017, at Ione. A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Ione American Legion Hall.

He was born January 23, 1938, at Dayton, Washington, the son of Van and Loree Brill Hubbard. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Ione where he was raised and attended school, graduating in 1956. Bob then entered the military, serving two years with the United States Army.

Upon his return he enrolled in Eastern Oregon College in La Grande. After college he began farming, but in the late 1960s his family sold the farm and Bob moved into town. He then went into a grain bin business with his father, which was called T & C Storage. Bob continued farming for other farmers and also ran a rural mail route out of Ione for many years.

Bob was a great supporter of the schools, different organizations and many causes in Ione. He began doing a voluntary cleanup of the roadways around Ione, picking up bottles, debris and garbage.

Survivors include his sisters Lillian Boyce of Hermiston and Peggy Connor of Heppner, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ione Educational Foundation,

P.O. Box 61, Ione, OR 97843.
