A treasure trove of rocks and gems are featured in the annual show organized by the Hatrockhounds Gem & Mineral Society.

Nature’s Treasures Under Foot is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hermiston Conference Center, 415 S. Highway 395. The admission fee is $3. Ages 12 and under are free if accompanied by an adult.

The event features dealers, showcases of special collections, demonstrations, silent auctions and hourly door prizes. A Kids’ Corner offers special activities and displays geared for the younger crowd. Also, on Mother’s Day, all moms are eligible for additional special hourly door prize drawings.

The local gem and mineral club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 775 W. Highland Ave., Hermiston. Those attending can enter through the back of the building.

A hobby club, participants meet to share their interest and experiences in searching for rocks, gems, minerals and fossils. The group also plans day outings, overnight field trips and other social activities.

Some members have experience with silversmithing or cabochon creation, and are happy to share their knowledge. Others simply enjoy the camaraderie of fellow rock hounds and searching for pretty rocks.

The club is open to all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced rock hounds. Anyone interested in learning more about the group is invited to attend a meeting.
