Charline Raona Rooper, 85, a resident of Pendleton, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at her home. She was born February 2, 1931, in Walla Walla, Washington.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton chapel. A celebration of her life will follow immediately after the service at Shari’s Restaurant banquet room, 319 S.E. Nye Ave., Pendleton. Pies and food will be served. She was born February 2, 1931, in Walla Walla, Washington, to George W. and Dorothy M. (Coulter) Egg. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in October of 1951, receiving honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1953.
She was married to Robert Ogden. They had a daughter and four sons together. Their marriage later ended. In May of 1967, Charline, now a single mom, moved her five children to Pendleton to be closer to her parents who owned and operated the Gurdane Ranch outside of Pilot Rock. Charline then went to work for Blue Mountain Community College as a secretary. She learned to stretch her budget to feed her family of five for years. In May of 1974 she married Robert L. Rooper. “Charlie” worked as a secretary for BMCC for many years, then worked for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of the Pendleton Eagles Auxiliary. One of the great joys in her life was golfing at Echo Hills and gambling at Wildhorse Resort & Casino. She would usually do both with her best friend Linda Gettman.
She is survived by daughter Loetta Dagley and husband Don Dagley of Pendleton, Ore.; sons Roger Ogden and Karen of Spokane Valley, Wash., George Ogden of Pendleton, Ore., Gary Ogden of Pendleton, Ore., and Robert Ogden and Debbie of Washington, Ga.; stepdaughters Tinker Pettyjohn and Sheila Dyer, and stepson Robert B. Rooper; brother George G. Egg and Susan of Vancouver, Wash.; nieces Jo Mae Alexander and Jamie Roderick; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Egg, and husband Robert L. Rooper.
