It behooves Pendleton residents to padlock the gates tonight and to see that nothing movable is left lying around the premises, for it is Hallowe’en tonight and spooks and goblins in the shape of small boys are liable to be at their pranks. In fact some of these modern spooks and goblins rather anticipated Hallowe’en, probably thinking that one night would not be sufficient to accomplish their designs. A big band of boys and girls was abroad in the east end of the city last evening and reports were made to the police this morning of some minor depredations. As a result a special officer will be stationed there tonight and other officers will probably guard other parts of the city.

After Glen Humbert became affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Eagles, his enthusiasm bubbled over so much that his seven sons recently joined Pendleton Aerie 28. Then his wife, Dorothy, made it a real family affair when she joined the auxiliary last week. Mr. and Mrs. Humbert have lived in Milton-Freewater since 1956, moving there from Bend. Humbert is engaged in his own logging operation in the area. The Humberts have 14 children living and 38 grandchildren. Besides the seven sons who recently joined the Eagles, they have one boy in Roseburg, three girls still at home, one married in Portland, one in Bend and one in Davis, Calif.
