Elsie “Mimi” Holmes passed away at her home in Pendleton on October 25, 2016. She was 93.

Elsie was born to Ella and Ross Brown on October 11, 1923, in Echo, Ore. She was the only girl of four children.

She married Lyle Holmes on June 2, 1941. She loved to travel and visited many state and national parks. Going to the mountains to collect firewood for her wood stove was a joy for her and she chopped wood up until age 85. She loved music and her garden.

On October 22, 1966, she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s witnesses and remained faithful until her death.

Elsie is survived by a large family including her two daughters, Maryanne Yates (and husband Ken) and Janice Carver, and son Dennis Holmes, all of Pendleton.

She had 13 grandchildren: Robin Yates of Missouri, Shannon Yates of Florida, Amber Taillon and Corey Yates of Salem, Ore., Sabrina Helms of Washington, Tonda Patterson, Shawnica Madsen, Erin Schuck, Kelly Wynn, Chad Wynn, Traci Hallos, Chris Hallos and Jason Carver, all of Pendleton. She had 30 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Lyle, her parents Ella and Ross Brown, and brothers Leo Brown, Jewel Brown and Merlin Brown.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pendleton.
