Martin Richard Ochoa Bettles, 25, resident of Portland and former Mission resident, died Saturday, September 3, 2016, in Portland, Oregon.

Dressing ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton chapel. The Washat service will begin 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Agency Longhouse in Mission. Final Seven will begin at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning, September 9, 2016, at Agency Longhouse with burial to follow at Tutuilla Cemetery in Mission. He was born January 26, 1991, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to parents Terrance (ekoin) Bettles Sr. and Angel Fay Ochoa. He was an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. He was raised in Mission, Oregon, attending Cay-Uma-Wa Head Start, Mission Seventh-day Adventist School, Washington Elementary School, Sammamish High School in Bellevue, Wash., and Nixyaawii Charter School in Mission, Ore., graduating in 2009. He was currently a student at Portland Community College in Portland, Ore. He had lived in Mission, Ore., Chiloquin, Ore., Bellevue, Wash., and Portland, Ore.

He enjoyed pow wow drumming and dancing and basketball. He was also a gifted lyricist.

He is survived by his parents Terrance Bettles Sr. of Mission, Ore., and Angel Fay Ochoa; siblings Terrance (alatalo mox mox) Bettles Jr. of Klamath Falls, Ore., Thomas (lakasha yooxot likipt) Bettles of Mission, Ore., Angela (wiouhpi wiyakpa) Ochoa of Everett, Wash., Amanda (wanbli gleshka) Ochoa of Klamath Falls, Ore., Michael Kash Kash of Terrebonne, Ore., and Michaela Kash Kash of Terrebonne, Ore.; grandfather Joseph Bettles Jr.; grandmother Raquel Ochoa; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by grandmothers Priscilla Bettles and Hannah Kash Kash, aunt Jody Anne Bettles and uncle Richard Brandon Ochoa.
