Anthony Loomis “Tony” Worth passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2016. He was 78 years old.
Tony was born on August 28, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Warren and Elizabeth Worth.
In 1984, Tony married his loving wife Dolores in El Paso, Texas. The couple moved to their permanent home, a little farm in Pendleton, Oregon, in October 1998. Tony and Dolores shared a great love of animals and together they rescued many dogs and cats, giving them an amazing home filled with love and care. Tony was especially fond of his sweet little companion, a dachshund named Flower.
Tony was a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned a degree in geology. He also received his Doctorate of Law from Wayne State. Tony practiced law in three different states during his career as a lawyer. He was highly respected for his extensive knowledge and experience with Social Security disability law. He helped many seriously ill people obtain benefits that provided them with a stable home and very necessary access to dependable medical care. He was fluent in Spanish, having lived and traveled in Mexico for many years, and served our Spanish-speaking community with generosity and compassion. Tony was happiest when he was helping others.
Tony had a great love for fossils and minerals and was an avid collector. His extensive knowledge of geology and his love of travel took him to major rock shows around the western United States. He participated for 50 years in the largest gem and mineral show in the world, which is located in Tucson, Arizona. Tony was also featured in the resource book “The Agates of Northern Mexico” for a particular mineral in his collection.
Tony is survived by his wife of 31 years, Dolores Worth of Pendleton, Oregon; sister Elizabeth Shelton of Washington, D.C.; stepdaughter Cathleen Orfao (husband Phillip) of Manchester, New Hampshire; three stepsons, Michael Brooks (wife LaVene) of Burleson, Texas, Robert Brooks of Plano, Texas, and Daniel Brooks (wife Angela) of Arlington, Texas; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Worth and Elizabeth Worth, and sister Nancy Worth.
A memorial service will be held at Emigrant Springs State Park Community Center, located in Meacham, Oregon, on Thursday, June 16th, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. Luncheon will be provided.
Contributions can be made in Tony’s honor to PAWS-Pioneer Humane Society Animal Shelter, a no-kill shelter that was very dear to Tony’s heart, at 517 S.E. Third St., Pendleton, OR 97801 (541-276-0181).
