U.S. Air Force Major Laura (Herd) Isaly was promoted to her current grade during a dockside ceremony on July 4th, 2015 at her home in Merritt Island, Florida. U.S. Navy Captain (Ret.) Michael Cunningham officiated during “the most momentous achievement during a military officer’s career, the promotion from company grade to field grade, and should be celebrated,” as stated in his opening remarks. U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Troy R. Young, Meacham, Ore., narrated the ceremony.

The program began with the singing of the National Anthem by Kennedy Erskine, accompanied on the flute by Elyssa Isaly. Following Captain Cunningham’s remarks, the official promotion orders were read by Lieutenant Colonel Young after which the formal pinning ceremony was performed by Major Isaly’s daughter, Elyssa; her father, U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant (Ret.) Ron Herd, Stanfield, Ore.; and her mother, Margo Herd, Meacham, Ore. The event was attended by family members, neighbors, and friends.

Major Isaly, a 1992 graduate of Stanfield High School, enlisted in the Air Force in 1994 and served as an A-10 aircraft crew chief. She received a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from University of South Carolina and an Air Force commission in 2005. Major Isaly earned a master’s degree in computer science from the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio, in 2010 and was reassigned to Patrick AFB, Florida. She is currently assigned to Hurlburt Field at Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
