- Pendleton's Kyler Lunny rounds third after a home run by teammate Wyatt Morris who isn't far behind during Tuesday's game against La Grande at Bob White Field.
Three Buckaroos and one Bulldog were selected to the Columbia River Conference All-league first team at the end of season coach’s meeting.
Infielders Caden Smith and Tony Papol and outfield Kyler Lunny represented Pendleton, and outfielder Cole Smith was the Bulldogs lone first-team pick. The awards were dominated by league champion Hood River Valley. Ryan Ward was the league’s selection for both Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year and Erich Harjo was named Coach of the Year. The Eagles received nine of 15 top team choices.
Lunny, a senior centerfielder, led the Buckaroos in hits (29), runs scored (23), walks (13) and stolen bases (13). He was also among the area’s top defensive outfielders. He received second-team selection a year ago.
Papol, a senior second baseman, was tops in batting average on the season with a. 347 clip. He was an honorable mention pick last year.
Caden Smith, a sophomore shortstop, was the Buckaroos (14-15) hottest bat in league play. He posted a .417 batting average, driving in a team-best 11 runs. He also hit the team’s only home run in 12 CRC contests.
Cole Smith, a senior outfielder, was the only region player to repeat as a first-team selection. He was a utility team choice in 2014.
The Bulldogs (11-13) dominated the second-team with eight selections. Pitcher RJ Robles, catcher Landon Gammel, first baseman Dylan Caldwell, second baseman Kyler Mikami, shortstop Chase Root, outfielder Michael Gossler, utility player Daniel Gossler and designated hitter Kaden Caldwell each were chosen to the second team.
Pitchers Quinn Cockburn and Brady Smith received second-team recognition for the Bucks, along with third baseman James Bradt.
