Alberta Allstott, 91, an Athena resident, was born in Kane, Wyoming, to Amanda Jane Bradley and Fredrick Hoffman, one of eight children. At age eight her mother passed away and she was adopted by Martha Slafter and grew up in Harrisville, N.Y. She graduated from Harrisville Central High School and got on a train, in the day when young women didn’t travel alone, and rode all the way to Heppner, Ore., where her father was working. She met and fell in love with Everett Barlow and they were married November 27, 1943. They had three children, Everett C. (Pete), Marthetta (who was stillborn) and Mary.

After the death of her husband she found another love in R.D. Allstott; they were married in 1983, and gained another daughter, Cindy.

Alberta was a stay-at-home mom, raising her two children. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed intricate western shirts for her son and poofy dresses for her little girl. When the time came, she made her daughter’s wedding dress and her stepdaughter’s wedding dress. She baked many wedding cakes for friends and family over the years. She loved all crafts and knitted hats and gloves for the Athena school children who were without. She was an avid bead worker, making Indian beaded jewelry and gold and silver jewelry that she shared with her family and friends.

Alberta never met an animal she didn’t love. When her son was allergic to cow’s milk, she bought a nanny goat and milked it daily. Years later she did the same thing when her granddaughter was allergic to cow’s milk. She raised chickens, rabbits, lambs and cows and always had a pet cat or dog.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and participated in fundraisers for the club. She was a member of the Athena Christian Church and attended Sunday services rain or shine. She was always the first one to church every Sunday.

She is survived by her son Everett Barlow (Ruth); daughters Mary Earlley (Allen) and Cindy Wheeler (Harley); grandchildren David Barlow (Rebecca), Julie Armstrong (Sean Moore), Tamara Pahl (Robert), Heather Earlley, Brianna Earlley, Rachael Tiffany (Mike), and JaiLeigh Bondurant; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother Harold Hoffman of Anchorage, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Athena Christian Church for their music and children’s programs, which were dear to her heart.

Her service will be held Thursday, June 4th at 11 a.m. at the Athena Christian Church.

Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop is in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.pioneerchapel.com
