Thomas Peter “Tommy” Shillal was born November 17, 1940, and passed away at his home in Wapato, Washington, on February 3, 2015. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel with Deacon Torres officiating. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Agency Cemetery in Mission. A reception will follow at the Mission Longhouse.

Survivors include his lifelong companion Christine Lucei Kipp for many, many years, for almost 50 years; sisters Sylvia Allen of Culdesac, Idaho, Stella Brown of Seattle, Wash., and Helen Morrison of Pendleton; and stepchildren Cathy Lamebull, Valerie Shike, Leonette Adams, Leonard “Louie” Hawk Jr. and Clara Hawk.

He was preceded in death by his father Francis Shillal; mother Rachel Eva Van Pelt Shillal; brothers LaVern and William Shillal; and sisters Casandra Shillal, Yvonne Scott, Virginia Schell, Judith M. Scott, Gloria Ellenwood and Edith Shillal.

He graduated from Pendleton High School and attended Haskell Indian College and served in Army as paratrooper. While in junior and high school in Pendleton he played the trumpet and was in the marching bands.

He worked many jobs from lumber mill, truck driving and surveying. He was one of the workers who helped build Indian Lake. In his later years, he and Chris enjoyed traveling to various Indian casinos, attended the Pendleton Round-Up every year, enjoyed horse racing and watching sports.
