BASEBALL: Grogan leads Tigers into offseason

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. The Stanfield Baseball Club exploded into the offseason with a dominant sweep of Sunnyside Christian 15-5 and 8-1.

Dyan Grogan highlighted the summer-ending stand with a 17-strikeout no-hitter in the night cap.

Sunnyside scored its only run on a walk, then an error in the third inning.

By then Stanfield was already ahead 4-1 and had scored its first run in the games second batter.

After Thyler Monkus was hit by a pitch to lead off, he stole second and third base. Then Keith Wampler singled him home

Ryan Bailey doubled him in on the next at-bat, then stole third before Grogan singled him in. Grogan then stole his way around the horn and Klay Jensen (2 for 3) brought him in with a sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning. Stanfield added two more singles in the inning but stranded both runners.

They added four more runs in the seventh inning and tallied nine hits. Jason Fitzpatrick

In the opener, Grogan totaled four RBIs and Bailey had three as Stanfield scored in each of the first four innings to end the game early via the mercy rule.

Grogan was only multiple-hit Tiger, but Monkus (1 for 1) scored four times, Damien Curiel scored three times and Wampler crossed home plate twice.

Monkus pitched the first four innings for the win and finished with six strikeouts, two walks.

Stanfield finished its summer campaign with a record of 14 wins, 7 losses.
