By a vote of over seven to one the people of Pendleton yesterday voted to bond the city for an additional $40,000 to complete the gravity water system and by a vote of two to one adopted the amendment providing for the reassessment of property in improvement districts in the event that the original assessments are invalidated by errors in proceedings. Both amendments carried in every ward. The additional water bonds were favored by overwhelming majorities at every polling place but in the first and fourth wards there was a fight on the reassessment plan, the Yesses winning out by narrow margins. The voting of the additional water bonds assures the early completion of the gravity system. The change from the wooden pipe line to concrete and line betterments in the city made necessary by street improvement made more money necessary.

Two former East Oregonian carriers recently had some earth-shaking experiences in different parts of the world. Paul Jordan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jordan, now of Tacoma, was in Copper Valley during the earthquake in Alaska. Paul, a teacher in a Catholic school near Valdez, went on a caribou hunt after the quake in order to help feed the 200 refugees staying at the school, which itself suffered great damage. Joel Jordan, another son, is also teaching in a Catholic school in Northern Rhodesia. He reports that recently he saw a three and a half foot dark snake head into the drain under the science lab. Faculty and 105 seminarians went on the hunt for it with pointed sticks, hoes and water. The drain was blasted with a shot gun and the snake removed.
