LETTER: Turner’s leadership sets him apart in race

Having worked with Republican John Turner for nine years at Blue Mountain Community College, I strongly support his candidacy for state representative of House District 58.

John is conservative, smart, and reasonable, not a fanatical ideologue. His priorities are economic development and job creation through strategies that include stabilizing education at all levels, strengthening workforce training to serve employers in the region, and promoting the use of natural resources.

John has decades of effective leadership experience. He had a distinguished 28-year career in the Marine Corps, leading troops in combat, serving in NATO and in the Pentagon, and serving as president of the Marine War College. He led BMCC, a $40-million/year operation with approximately 400 full-and part-time employees, out of a period of economic decline into a position of growth and development.

John worked with the legislature for many years on behalf of BMCC and northeastern Oregon, and he understands the challenges of representing us in a legislature dominated by West Side interests.

He knows how to work with diverse groups to solve problems in a practical way. He will be a positive leader in Salem who will represent us well and with integrity. Please vote for John Turner.
