GIRLS BASKETBALL: Pilot Rock wins on new floor

PILOT?ROCK It had been two years since the Pilot Rock girls basketball team played a true home game.
So when the Rockets finally stepped on a court they could call their own Saturday night, they made it a momentous occassion.
Behind senior post Madison Dave Pilot Rock handled Heppner 67-40 in a Blue Mountain Conference tilt.
Dave poured in 25 points to go with 11 rebounds for Pilot Rock, a team that was without a place to play because its old gym was condemned for safety reasons.
She played pretty unbelievable tonight, Pilot Rock coach Butch Wilson said. The girls havent played on their own court in awhile. They were pumped. It was a big deal to them.
Pilot Rock (5-2, 2-0) jumped on the Mustangs (4-2, 1-1), taking a 43-17 halftime lead. Heppner never threatened.
Bailey Weinke also reached double figures for the Rockets, scoring 14 points.
Kelly Wilson had 14 points for Heppner in a losing effort.

GRANT UNION 41, IRRIGON 39 At Irrigon, Grant Union got hot and held off the Knights in a Blue Mountain Conference meeting.
It marked the first loss of the year for Irrigon (5-1, 1-1).
They shot the lights out, Irrigon coach Stuart Dick said. They absolutely could not miss.
Sandra Vera had 11 points to lead Irrigon, which had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but a layup attempt went in and out.
Grant Union (3-3, 1-1) was led by?Rayne Houser (nine points).
Irrigon plays host to Ione next Friday

ENTERPRISE?30, WESTON-MCEWEN 29 At Athena, the Outlaws made their free-throws count down the stretch in a BMC game.
Enterprise was just 9-for-17 and Weston-McEwen 5-for-19, but it proved to be the difference in game where offense was almost non-existent.
This game came down to free throws, Weston-McEwen coach?Amber Doremus said. They made better use of their opportunties.
Taryn Coffman had 12 points to lead Weston-McEwen(6-1, 1-1).
Hayley Riggs had 14 points to lead the Outlaws (4-3, 1-1).

Nine of the Echos 13 players reached the scoring column to help boost their teams record to 6-1.
Echo was paced by Kaci Kamm, who had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle King added 11 points for the Cougars.
