Johnson is taking a position in ODF’s Private Forests Program, based in Salem.
George Ponte, Central Oregon District forester, called the John Day job one of the “most challenging and rewarding positions of its type” in ODF, and said she will be missed.
Ponte said Brian Reel, currently assistant unit forester in ODF’s Fossil office, will fill the John Day job on an interim basis after Johnson’s departure.
The agency has begun recruiting for the job, hoping to fill the position by the end of June.
