Bernard E. Bud Marshall, 85 of Milwaukie, Oregon formerly of Heppner, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home. Memorial funeral mass will be held Friday, March 22 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Heppner, with a memorial graveside service to follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Oregon.
Bud was born February 19, 1928, at Coeur dAlene, Idaho, the son of Kenneth and Myrtle Duncan Marshall.
He was raised and attended school in Lexington, Oregon, and on September 18, 1945, he joined the Navy and served until February 16, 1949. Bud was a Machinist Mate First Class, and was assigned to five different ships and served a short tour in San Diego. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Asia-Pacific Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
On February 4, 1950, Bud married Roxie Ramona McDaniel at Pendleton, Oregon. The couple raised five children in the Heppner community, actively attending all of their sports events and concerts. In the 1970s Ramona had to go on a kidney dialysis machine and Bud trained to take care of her. He worked for Columbia Basin Electric Co-op while living in Heppner; he retired from there in 1989. In 1991 Bud and Ramona moved to Vancouver, Washington, to be closer to Ramonas medical care. Ramona predeceased Bud on January 8, 1992.
Bud was a member of the following Catholic churches: St. Patrick Catholic Church in Heppner, Oregon, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vancouver, Washington, and Our Lady of Grace in Beverly Hills, Florida. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus while living in Vancouver.
After Ramonas death Bud met Agnes Hill-Hordeman. They both had lost spouses through illness, they both were Catholic and they both had 5 children. They were married October 31, 1992. They loved to tell people they had 10 children. In 2000 they moved to Beverly Hills, Florida, and in 2012 they moved to Milwaukie, Oregon. Bud was very fond of his cat Tiger Lilly, who came with them from Florida.
Survivors include his wife Agnes; his children Mona Lisa Pelesky and her husband Bill of Westport, Washington, Barney Marshall and his wife Susy of La Grande, Oregon, Jeff Marshall of Long Beach, Washington, Dan Marshall of Lexington, Oregon, and Kathy Kate Marshall of Fairbanks, Alaska; stepchildren Phyllis and Larry Fritzie of Oregon City, Oregon, Kim and Allisa Hordeman of Dunnellon, Florida, Henry Hordeman of Gainesville, Florida, Gary Hordeman, and Rex and Lisa Hordeman, all of New Jersey; 21 grandchildren,17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ramona, his parents, 2 sisters, 1 niece and 1 nephew.
