Grant County in Northeast Oregon has been determined the healthiest county in the state according to a new study released by the University of Wisconsin.

The study ranks every county in each state. Researchers look at things like smoking rates, education and access to nutritious food.
Nationwide, it shows child poverty rates haven’t improved in 13 years, but violent crime has decreased by almost 50 percent over the last two decades.
Researcher, Kate Konkle, says Grant county does well because it has plenty of primary care doctors, a low crime rate, clean water and access to preventive screenings. Baker County ranks lowest in Oregon, she says, because of social and economic factors.
“A third of children are living in poverty. About a third are living in single parent households. The high school graduation rate is at 61 percent which is below average for Oregon.”
Oregon’s five healthiest counties are Grant, Benton, Hood River, Washington and Clackamas. At the bottom of the list are Baker, Jefferson, Klamath, Douglas and Josephine.
Multnomah county ranks 15th — about halfway down the scale.
