Old West Federal Credit Union will soon move its Pendleton offices to the South Main Street building left vacant by Bank of America.

The credit union plans to move its banking and loan offices to 301 S. Main St. by fall. It may eventually create more jobs in their new, larger quarters, said president Ken Olson.

Old West has headquarters in John Day and offices in Pendleton, Hermiston, Prairie City and Baker City. The credit union plans to sell its 3,600-square-foot retail office at 800 S.W. Dorion Ave. and move out of its lending office at 370 S. Main St., which it rents from Al Plute.

Old West will remodel the first floor of the 30,000-square-foot Main Street location before moving in. The credit union may sublease the second floor and unfinished third floor, which Bank of America did not use.

The credit union purchased the bank building from Gary Robinson of California for $625,000, according to Umatilla County records. Robinson told the East Oregonian in August the bank disputed its lease before announcing it would leave Pendleton.

Bank of America announced in November it would close 750 branches nationwide, including its Main Street location, and move those local accounts to Hermiston.

Bank of America in January opened a full-service ATM inside Pendleton Grain Growers at 1000 S.W. Dorion Ave. The ATM is accessible only during PGG business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
