Jerry Raines, a resident of Pendleton, died Thursday, January 31, 2013, at his home in Pendleton. He was 54 years old. Memorial funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the Burns Mortuary Chapel of Pendleton. Jerry was born August 28, 1958, in San Antonio, Texas. He was the son of Jack R. and Janice M. Greene. He was raised and educated in Arizona and Colorado. As a young man he had worked in the tire and wheel industry and also the oil fields. He married Denise Dockery on June 8, 1985, in Greely, Colorado. He and his wife continued to live in Colorado until coming to Pendleton in 1989.
While in Pendleton he worked for a short time at Fleetwood Travel Trailers. He had also worked as a cook at the Copper Kitchen and as manager of the Marshall Station, as well as kitchen manager at the Tapadera. In 1999 he began working at Crabbys Underground Saloon as a bartender and cook. He continued working there until he retired due to health reasons in 2009.
He greatly enjoyed fishing, woodworking, yard work, playing music, and spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Dozer Dean.
He is survived by: his wife Denise of Pendleton; three children: Jason and wife Sarah of Kennewick, Wash., Riki Raines of Pendleton, Ore., and Jenna Raines of Pendleton, Ore.; his mother Janice Matthews of Greeley, Colo.; two brothers, Jim Mathews and Jack Matthews, both of Greeley, Colo., and one sister, Sandy; two grandchildren, Tanner and Mallory Raines of Kennewick, Wash.; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Dozer Dean. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Gary.
