Edward Patrick McCarton was born to Thomas McCarton and Mary Josephine McDaid on August 12, 1935, in Pendleton, Oregon. He spent his first few years on Minnehaha Road in Hermiston before moving to Pendleton to attend St. Joseph Academy. After graduating from Gonzaga University in 1959 with a Bachelors of Education (B.Ed.) degree, he taught high school math in Seattle, where he lived for 50 years. He was particularly connected to the Interbay, Capital Hill, and Ballard neighborhoods. He loved to travel and visited Ireland, Germany, New York City and many U.S. states over the years.
Edward died on December 3, 2012, in Seattle. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Mary Pat, nephew Sean Phelan, nieces Maureen, Erin, and Theresa Phelan, and great-niece Maureen Rivera. He is survived by his sister Rosie Phelan, nieces Mary Beth (David) Cohoe, Peggy (Brian) Doherty, Nora (Shawn) Rivera, nephew Tom (Teri) Phelan, and many great-nieces and -nephews.
A rosary will be held at the St. Anthony Hospital chapel on December 28 at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Olney Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation are appreciated.
