This spring, Portland indy rockers Typhoon set out to make a new record. Their destination, Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley and home of Pickathon music festival.

“At the risk of sounding fatalistic, it felt sort of like it had been written that we would come here and make a record. We’ve never been really into the traditional recording style because there are a lot of us,” says Typhoon frontman Kyle Morton.

The 13-member band moved out to the farm, built a recording studio in the barn and set up camp in the woods. Over the course of a month, they wrote and recorded a new album’s worth of material. This September, Typhoon debuted some of those songs at the Aladdin Theater in Portland.

Tune in to Oregon Art Beat on Thursday, November 16 at 8 p.m. to see scenes from their Aladdin Theater show and the Pendarvis Farm recording sessions.

Two songs from their farm recording sessions were released last month on Tender Loving Empire records. They celebrate the release with a big show at the Crystal Ballroom on Friday, November 23rd with Laura Gibson and Lost Lander.
