Starting Thursday, Spirit Airlines is offering new flights from Portland directly into San Diego and Los Cabos, Mexico.

These are daily nonstop flights and Spirit says they are offering special introductory rates.

Port of Portland spokesman Steve Johnson says the new flights are increasing foot traffic at the Portland Airport.

“San Diego is an important market for PDX travelers, it’s our eigth largest market by passenger volume. We are excited to see this new nonstop service to San Diego. Spirit in the past several months has launched service not only to San Diego but also Las Vegas and to Dallas Fort Worth, so that has been boosting travel.

Johnson says many travelers are booking early to get the promotional rates.
