Museum offers science festivals

Hand-on activities, including interactive science equipment, puzzles and mindbenders from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, will travel to Eastern Oregon. Several public libraries will hold OMSI Science Festivals during the week of Aug. 13.
Tabletop exhibits and hands-on fun will be offered by OMSI through a collaborative effort with the Libraries of Eastern Oregon. OMSIs table-top brain teaser puzzles are among the most popular attractions at the Portland-based museum.
The display and activities are free and open to people of all ages. Children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult.
OMSI Science Festivals are scheduled for:
Monday from 1-5 p.m. at the Boardman Branch of the Oregon Trail Library District, 200 S. Main St.
Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Athena Public Library, 418 E. Main St.
Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. through Weston Public Library (at Memorial Hall, 210 E. Main St.)
Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. at the Baker County Public Library, 2400 Resort Ave., Baker City.
Thursday from 1-5 p.m. at Cook Memorial Library, 2006 Fourth Ave., La Grande.
Friday, Aug. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Umatilla Public Library, 911 Seventh St.
Friday, Aug. 17 from 3-6 p.m. at the Hermiston Public Library, 235 E. Gladys Ave.
I am thrilled that OMSI and LEO are working together to bring OMSI back again, since its a great experience for the kids and a super final event for our Summer Reading Program, said Marie Baldo, Hermiston library director.
