Nicolas Batum will be staying with the Portland Trail Blazers. The announcement came on Wednesday that the team will match the Minnesota Timberwolves’ offer to Batum. Minnesota offered the French forward more than $45 million dollars for a four-year contract.
In an interview posted at the Blazers’ website, General Manager Neil Olshey said he was in close contact with Batum throughout the negotiations:
“We’ve talked every day, every other day we’ve texted. He has always expressed his desire to come back to Portland. His agent did what he needed to do, which was to get the best possible deal for his client. He feels like he did that. Nicolas got his deal, we got our player back, and we’ll move on.” said Olshey.
Batum flew to Portland yesterday for a physical before the deal was matched. Batum first signed with the Trail Blazers in 2008.
