La Grande furniture business relocates store on SW Emigrant

While Wilcox Furniture closes its doors, a La Grande business has relocated its furniture store in Pendleton.
Two weeks ago Brian Olson, 51, and Matthew Clark, 42, opened Pendleton Furniture at 1902 S.W. Emigrant Ave., literally across the street from Wilcox. Olson said it just worked out that way.
We had looked at this building months and months ago, Olson said.
Olson and Clark missed an opportunity to move from La Grande to Pendleton but when the previous tenant at Emigrant Avenue left, Olson said, they hopped on the site.
We like the feel of Pendleton, and had been coming here for some time, he said.
Olson and Clarks avoid the conventional look for furniture stores. There are not rows of chairs there and table sets here.
Olson said Clark, a former furniture merchandise manager, has an eye for displaying goods so the customer feels comfortable in the space.
The business only offers furniture made in Oregon, some from big companies, such as mattress makers, and others from local craftsmen and artisans. Four years ago Olson and Clark opened their first furniture store in Baker City, then in 2011 moved to La Grande in hopes of a larger market.
That didnt pan out, Olson said, but he is hopeful the Pendleton location will pull customers from throughout the region.
