Hamley Steakhouse, the Pendleton landmark at Main Street and Court Avenue, has formally cut ties with former general manager Vince Cannone, who was indicted in 2009 for stealing from the restaurant.

A civil case filed in Umatilla County circuit court by Hamley Steakhouse owners Parley Pearce and Blair Woodfield ended in February with an undisclosed settlement. Cannone, 53, now owns a restaurant in Walla Walla and remained a partner with the limited liability company that owns Hamley.

Hes out of our lives, Pearce said Wednesday.

As part of the settlement, Pearce is barred from commenting on the case, he said. But in 2009, he accused the former manager of stealing from the restaurant, allegedly cashing a $600 check received as a banquet payment, using the company credit card to pay for repairs on his sons motorcycle and never collecting payment for a Walla Walla Rotary Club dinner. Cannone was club president at the time.

Cannone faced charges in Umatilla County of taking between $20,000 and $30,000 in cash, gift certificates and services. The manager faced seven counts six felonies and one misdemeanor. A Circuit Court judge dismissed five of the charges in October 2011 The remaining indictment accused Cannone of printing $5,000 in Hamley gift certificates and trading them for credit at the Marcus Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla.

The steakhouse opened in fall 2007. Pearce and Woodfield noticed the alleged thefts the following May. Cannones employment ended a month later. As of June 2009, he owned and operated Jacobis Cafe in Walla Walla, which is now for sale.

Cannone denied stealing from the steakhouse, telling the Walla Walla Union Bulletin in 2009 that the allegations had shocked him.

After the civil settlement, Circuit Court Judge Lynn Hampton dismissed the two remaining criminal charges of theft.

Cannone, when contacted by the East Oregonian Wednesday, said his attorney had advised him not to talk to the media.

Pearce and Woodfield also own the Hamley Saddle Shop, Hamley Cafe and Slickfork Saloon.
