RICHLAND, Wash. Ivan R. Goodman, 83, of Pilot Rock died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Pilot Rock.  

Mr. Goodman was born April 1, 1928, in Sebetha, Kan. He was raised in Kansas and Iowa. After his schooling he enlisted in the Navy, and served his country as a chief petty officer during the Viet Nam and Korean wars. He married Dorothy M. Vaughn in 1950 in Bremerton, Wash.  

He worked as an assignment classifier in Millington, Tenn. He also served in Chicago, Alaska and Iceland and aboard the USS Enterprise before he retired as a Navy recruiter at Fargo, N.D., in 1968. After his retirement he moved to Pilot Rock, where he held numerous jobs from Pilot Rock police officer to auto parts store manager and saw operator at the local mill.

He retired from the mill after an accident that severed three fingers on his right hand. He then operated his own lawn care business to help the elderly that could not care for their lawn themselves for more than 15 years.

Mr. Goodman is survived by children Brian Goodman of Walla Walla, Scott Goodman of Dallesport, Wash., Mark Goodman of Union and Vicky Goodman of Pendleton; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy in 2002; and three brothers.
