PENDLETON Beer West magazine has honored Prodigal Son Brewery + Pub, with a Best of the West Coast selection.
The magazines editors recognized the Pendleton business as having the best brewery in the West.
Besides describing the brewerys location and history, the story chronicles the delivery of a keg of Wheatstock hefeweizen and a bag of grapefruits to the Helix Pub.
Prodigal Son owners Tim and Jennifer Guenther, say their idea still is catching on.
The magazine said the best-selling beer at Prodigal Son is an American-style hefeweizen, but it has taken some longtime Pendleton residents time to warm up to the idea of craft beer. Jennifer said she usually suggests A Beer Named Sue to newcomers. Its a mellow, golden ale, which most people end up loving, she said.
Prodigal Son observed its first anniversary April 15 with the release of its first Belgian-style beer, which brewmaster Brian Harder created with rose hips and toasted grains of paradise.
