Muddy frogwater country, surrounded by wheat fields and vineyards set against the beautiful Blue Mountains.
Milton-Freewater branded itself as the muddy frogwater town based on its nickname. It took the mantle in full swing and frog statues decorate the town on street corners and in front of many businesses.
But behind the frogs is a community with a surprising number of things to do and fun to be had.
Milton-Freewater is the place for those with a sweet tooth.
Its hard to miss Petits Noirs, the chocolate boutique on South Main Street. Its a giant purple house filled with fine chocolates sure to tingle any tongue.
Blue Mountain Cider Company can also be found in town, on East Broadway Avenue. The cidery, a division of Earl Brown and Sons fruit company, is also partnered with Watermill Winery. Both will offer a good alcoholic beverage, though the cider tends to be the sweeter of the two.
For a bit more active activity, check out the Milton-Freewater Municipal Golf Course. Its an 18-hole course with most holes a par 3 or par 4.
For an educational day, visit the Frazier Farmstead Museum. It is the former home of the Frazier family, one of the founding members of the community. Today it keeps its turn-of-the-20th century look for visitors to experience what Milton-Freewater was like in the early days.
Milton-Freewater also hosts its share of yearly events.
The biggest is the Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival. If frog statues werent enough, the town fully embraces its nickname with a celebration of frogs and fun.
Logs to Frogs is a chainsaw carving competition where they carve much more than frogs. Up to 15 teams come to town to carve masterpieces from logs. Prizes are given for the top three winners as well as the peoples choice award.
