Pendleton applauds volunteers

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, the city of Pendleton hosted a volunteer appreciation reception April 14. Several departments recognized a volunteer of the year, including Tom Laird, police department; Jutta Haliewicz, parks and recreation; and Linda Senter, library.

In addition, six Presidential Volunteer Service Awards were presented. Volunteers qualify for these national awards based on the number of hours of service during a 12-month period. Those recipients included Laird, a gold award in the adult category for 667 volunteer hours; and Katlyn Andersen, silver award in the young adult category for 207.25 volunteer hours at the library. Bronze awards in the adult category went to library volunteers Karen Odman, for 140.5 hours; Senter, 243 hours; Anne Shope, 125.5 hours; and Mathew Tuliau, bronze award in the kids category for 65 volunteer hours at the library and parks and recreation.
